  • I Miss Boston

So I’ve always wanted to go to Boston. I’ve seen pictures and movies and I just fell in love with the scenery.

Cassie and I have always talked about visiting Sarah in the Massachusetts but it quickly became the idea that got shoved to the back of our minds, never to resurface. But one day Cassie finds cheap tickets to Boston. I think it was around $215? So we told Sarah about it and she told us to check for tickets for another airport, which was closer to her school. The ticket ended up being $145, which got us even more excited. We called our parents and we booked a flight that night.

On Tuesday, January 6th, we get to the airport about 45 minutes before our flight to find out that we missed it. They wouldn’t let us check in so we caught a later flight. I didn’t get a minute of sleep the night before so I would fall asleep on Cassie everytime she talked. Haha, sorry Cass!

We got to Mt. Holyoke and played with some of Sarah's friends. Then the next day, we were off to Boston!

Our first stop was Mr. Bartley’s Burger Cottage, which was recommended to us by Mike and John. The walls were filled with bumper stickers and posters. Our burgers were delicious and were fun to pick because of the satirical menu. Sarah and Bo had the Viagra, Cassie had the Professor Skip Gates, and I had the Joe Lieberman. Yummm, I would go back.We walked around Harvard Square for a little bit but only went to Berry Line and a bookstore because the weather was kind of bad. Then we dropped off our stuff at our hotel (we stayed at the Hyatt overlooking Boston) and went to Flour Bakery at South End (also recommended by John and Mike). We ate banana bread, boston creme cake, and sour cream coffee cake with hot drinks. So good!! Then we went to a improv show, which we really enjoyed.

On Thursday, we checked out of our hotel and went back to Harvard Square. We walked around, checked out a couple stores, but got hungry so we were off to Beacon Hill to have a late lunch at The Upper Crust. I’m not a big fan of thin crust pizzas (I love that I live in Chicago), but pizza at The Upper Crust was GOOD! We walked around Beacon Hill for a little bit, it was cold so we didn’t stay long.

We then drove to Newbury Street where we shopped for a little bit. We got hungry (again) and off to North End, Little Italy, for dinner at Giacomos. It was a very small restaurant and very busy so we had to wait in line OUTSIDE till they got a table cleared for us. The food was delicious. I was asked if Giacomo’s would be on the list of places I would want to go again if I ever went back to Boston and I think I would want to go back. Even though it was crazy crowded and kind of chaotic, I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the service. Maybe I’ll get what Cassie had, lobster ravioli! Yummm. After we were stuffed, we walked down the street and stopped by Mike’s Pastry and Modern Pastry. We then headed to Sarah’s friend, Jesse’s house to stay for the night.

We woke up pretty late the next day and we spent our morning/afternoon watching tv. We headed out to Quincy Market where I had to have Clam Chowda in a bread bowl. So good! We walked around and went to a couple stores around there and then we headed back to Mt. Holyoke

For the rest of the trip, Sarah just took us on a tour around her school. The next day was Cassie’s 21st birthday so we celebrated at midnight with some pizza (we picked up from Amherst), chocolate cake, and wine. It was a good way to end the trip… until the series of unfortunate, frustrating events that made us miss our flight going home!

Sarah called a cab for us during the day for 3:30AM. Our flight was at 6:30AM and we didn’t want to miss it because the snow was starting to come down hard. We went out at 3:25 and there was nothing in sight. We stood out there for an hour (while Cassie was jumping around making animals in the snow with her footprints) and no taxi! We waited for another 40 minutes inside a building and the taxi didn’t show up! So we called United Airlines to see if we can change our flight and we finally were able to switch our flight to a later on in the day. We went to sleep, woke up, a taxi showed up, and we were on our way home!

    Wow, this is pretty long.

I think if I had to choose to live anywhere besides the midwest, it would definitely be the east coast. I definitely want to go back to Boston if I ever have a chance to. Next time, I think I'd want to go to the museums. Anyone want to go???
